Half or Whole?

As many of you know our sweet Calloway was born on Dec. 29th and that hasn't neccessarily been a problem but it is an inconveinent time to celebrate a birthday and have a party. I've heard of people whose children has similar birth dates and they choose to have the party on the child's half birthday, which for Calloway would be June 29th. Now the pro's to doing that are huge! Just look at how many more options for types of parties that gives us whereas in the middle of winter and at Christmas time, let's just face it, you can't go swimming and it's hard to find a good time for the party. The last couple of years we've celebrated either the 1st or 2nd weekend in January and that's worked fine but now that she is getting older and is talking about her party a lot, I feel this will be the year to possibly re-think things.

So, that is where/why I write this post. I need your help and your advice. If it was your child or what do you think? Should we celebrate near her birth date or go ahead and move parties to her half birthday? Please leave a comment and let us know what you think.

  1. I say celebrate the 1/2 birthday. I had two friends in school who were born on Christmas day (and no they weren't twins. They weren't even related). Their birthdays were almost always overlooked. Poor guys. It's a hard decision but you can make the 1/2 birthday a time to celebrate with all her friends and her whole birthday a special time with family.

  2. Both! It's easier for me to get to see you all around her actual birthday, so you have to have at least a family party at that time... Other than that, half-birthdays are fun, and you're probably right about midsummer being an easier time to celebrate. Love to you, Mark, and Cal.
