October Awareness

I'm sure many of you will read that title and automatically think of Breast Cancer Awareness this month, but that's not the only thing that October reminds us of. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month also.

This year October is especially hard for me. You see one year ago today we lost a baby. I was only 7  weeks along and about to go in for our first ultra sound. Mark was out of town and I went to work on what was supposed to be just a regular ole Monday. About halfway through the morning I noticed some spotting and by lunch there was more. So, I called my doctor and left school immediately to go have my blood checked. Then I went home to prop my feet up and lay flat, doctors orders. I begin praying for the Lord to let us keep that baby. I left to go pick Calloway up from school and returned home to the couch. it was a hard evening being a single mom and couch-ridden. By that evening, there was so much spotting I knew it had to be a miscarriage.

Maybe you too have had had a miscarriage, a still birth, or lost an infant. If you haven't, then please spend some time in prayer today for those people who you know who have lost babies - at any stage of development. Sometimes these women grieve alone. If you have lost a baby, please know that you are not alone and if you would like me to pray for you, please leave a comment so I can.

I borrowed this from a friend's blog today: "Someone pointed this out to me not too long ago, and it really resonated.  As Christians, we fight so hard against abortions.  We are Pro-Life - no matter how small the baby or early in the pregnancy it is.  Yet, when someone has a miscarriage, there seems to be a bit of an unwillingness to talk about it.  It's almost "taboo" to bring up.  If we fight so hard for a small baby to be saved, we should also grieve so much when someone loses a baby they wanted so badly."

If you haven't lost a child, but you know someone who has, please pray for them by name this month. And if you do pray for someone, please tell them that you did. There is no gift greater to a grieving mom than to know that someone remembered their baby.

This month I'll be praying for: Kim, Sarah, Erin, Kimberly, Jessica, Tammy, Susan, Jackie, and Becky.
