Party Animal!

Last Saturday Calloway was invited to the birthday party of a 7yr old in our church. So, we went to her party. Well, the next thing I knew, we recieved 2 more birthday invitations solely from being at party #1. Let me tell you....once your in birthday loop, it's hard to escape. Calloway was invited to 3 parties this last weekend. Those parties were held at this indoor inflatable place called Going Apes. It had a special toddler zone but she didn't much care for the bounce house. Here are a few photos of Calloway playing.

Now, on a more serious note. Mark and I are attending a Fireproof Class at our church that is based on the movie. So, far we are really enjoying the 6 week study with a small group of people. Anyway, yesterday started week 4 and it was about breaking free from addictions and temptations that we have in our lives and marriage. In the video while Caleb is reading The Love Dare, he comes across this passage, "Watch out for parasites. A parasite is anything that latches onto you or your partner and sucks the life out of your marriage. They're normally in the form of addictions like gambling, drugs or pornography. They promise pleasure but grow like a disease and consume more and more of your thoughts, time and money. They steal away your loyalty and your heart from those you love. Marriages rarely survive if parasites are present. If you love your wife, you must destroy any addiction that has your heart. If you don't, it will destroy you."

After reading the following passages of scripture, I came to a conclusion.
James 1:13-15 1 Peter 5:8-9 Romans 7:21-25
Matthew 5:27-30 Psalm 119:9-11 Hebrews 4:15
1 Corinthians 10:13 1 John 1:9 James 5:16
Every Thursday night like clockwork I sit down in front of the TV to watch Grey's Anatomy. I never let anything come in the way of my watching that show. I even tell others that "I am addicted to it!" After reading these passages and doing this study, I feel that Grey's is a parasite in my life. It takes me away from household duties and I can't seem to find anything in the show that is pleasing and glorifying to God. So why do I week after week sit and watch it? Well, that parasite has wriggled its way into my life. I have decided to give up watching Grey's. I know some of you out there are probably thinking that I am crazy or that I can do it or what kind of an idea is that. But I would like to challenge each of you to sit back and evaluate what things in your life are parasites and then try cutting them out. If we fill our minds and hearts with God's word (like we are called to do) then out of our mouths come good. For me, inputting the filth and junk that take place in Grey's does not help me have good come from my mouth or my thoughts. I know that I will be tempted to turn the TV on on Thursday nights but I pray that you will pray for me to be able to overcome that temptation.

If any of you have any questions or decide to "cut" something out of your life, I wish that you would let me know that what I have written here has touched you in some way.
God Bless!

  1. Hey, We just watched that movie yesterday for the 1st time. That section of the movie got to me also. I immediately thought of TV and the Internet. I have struggled and thought about it alot to. I will pray for you as I "try" to give it up too. I have LOVED Grey's and yes I am ADDICTED to it. But I have really struggled with some of the story lines. Especially this year. Maybe it is time for me to give it up.

At 8pm on Thursday lets commit to pray for each other.

  2. I've never seen Grey's, but I think it's awesome that you're willing to give it up. I'll pray for you. It's amazing the power prayer has over temptation.

By the way, I really liked Fireproof, so I'm actually reading the Love Dare book right now. :-)

  3. I gave it up about a year ago and am still tempted sometimes. Stay strong. You can do it.
