Weekend Getaway

Sorry, I'm just now getting to post about our Memorial Day Weekend getaway, but I've been winding down school all week. Yesterday was our last day with kids and I still have to work Monday but basically "school's out for the summer"!

Mark and I have been wanting to just get away and go somewhere and do something fun. About 2 weeks ago I got the great idea that we should go to Fredericksburg, TX and go antique shopping. All along the plan was to just take Calloway with us because we didn't want to burden anyone with having to keep her overnight and besides I love having her with us and letting her experience new things and new places too! Well, a few days before we left our dear friends Terry and Barbara called us out of the blue and asked if they could keep Calloway overnight so that Mark and I could just go and have a second honeymoon. Barbara just knew it was a longshot since I just love to be around my little lady EVERY waking moment possible. Now keep in mind that I have spent the night away from Cal but she's always been with Mark on those nights. Well, this would be the first she had ever stayed the night with anyone else and not even in her own house/bed. I cried at first at the thought of leaving of her but knew in my heart it would truly be best for she and I both if she stayed behind.

So, we agreed and Sunday morning after church we took her over to Terry and Barbara's house. The second we got her little suitcase out of the car, she came over, grabbed it by the handles and started wheeling it to the door. It was a bittersweet moment! I felt like my baby was growing up but I was glad to see her excited about her sleepover! We all changed clothes and then Mark and I left, grabbed lunch on the way out of town, and headed about 3 hours south of us to a little town called Llano. They had 4 excellent antique stores! In one of the stores I had my eye on a little nightstand for Calloway's room. This was the one thing I had intentions of buying on this little trip. I had given myself a $100 budget and was very excited to see what we could find. I loved the little blue nightstand, especially for a whoppin' $35! But decided that I would wait 'til Monday on our way back through to purchase it in case I found something in Fredericksburg that I liked better.

So we got back in the car and drove about an hour to Fredericksburg, checked into our hotel and asked the man on staff to tell us a great German place for dinner. For those Arkansas friends of ours, Fredericksburg is very similar to Eureka Springs, only Fredericksburg has a more German influence on the town instead of Swiss/Victorian. The guy at the hotel recommended Freidholm's a 3-story Bavarian Inn and Cafe. I ordered the regular Schnitzel and Mark had Freidhelm's Rump Steak. First they brought us a very hot soup with some pumpernickel bread, then salads, and finally our meal which came served in a full size stainless steal skillet. Let's just say that we got full pretty quickly!

By this time all of the cute little shops were closed and we decided to toodle around town looking at the architecture and scoping out what shops we wanted to hit first thing Monday morning. We also did a little geocaching! Then it was back to the hotel for some R&R.

On Monday morning the hotel served a full hot breakfast (which is always nice when you're traveling)! Then we headed downtown to shop. We came across several very unique stores some of which we loved. If you ever go to Fredericksburg and you want ot "junk" shop, there is a fantastic store called "Homestead and Friends Antiques", it truly was the best one!

After a morning of shopping we were hungry and stepped one block off of Main Street onto Llano Street where there was a small italian restaurant called "Pasta Bella". It was very delicious and I would reccommend it as well. After lunch we gassed up and headed back to Llano to purchase the little blue nightstand. Then it was on to pick up our little darling. When we arrived back at their house, Calloway was out swimming in the pool and she wouldn't get out. Finally after about 30 minutes we convinced her that it was time to go home. She just cried when we left. As a parent, that made me sad and glad. Sad that she wanted to stay and not be with me, but glad that she wanted to stay with people who love her very much!

So, we had a fantastic weekend getaway and a special thanks to Terry and Barbara for keeping our little lady safe and having so much fun with her so that we could just getaway! We love you guys!
