So, back right after school started in the Fall, I got this brilliant idea and was just mulling it over in my head for several months. Then I finally let the thought out just to see what a few people thought about it and if it would actually be possible or a good idea. Well, this weekend it became to time to fulfill this little idea.....

I thought that the guest bedroom seemed so crowded and since it is also our home office, when we have guests over, I feel like I am intruding if I want to go in there and check my e-mail or anything. Not to mention that that room becomes the catch all-end all and is just a mess most of the time. Then there is Calloway's room which is just being overrun by her toys. Well I began thinking that most people aren't fortunate enough to have an extra room for guests in their homes (unless they are empty nesters) and that many times a child will have to give up their room when guests come to stay. So I took this idea and decided to switch up the spaces a little. I would move the full size guest bed into Cal's room making that her new bed (getting her some cute kid friendly bedding to go on it, that would already match the paint in her room), put the twin bed in the office along with all the toys and make that the playroom/office, and when guests come over, they could sleep in her cute room and she would have the twin bed to sleep on in the office. AND having a playroom, would hopefully help cut down on some of the toy mess in her room. If someone came by for a visit (not to stay the night) and the playroom was messy, we could just shut that door and her room would be still be nice and clean.
So here are the before pictures in case you forgot what those two rooms looked like.
Apparently I don't have a before picture of the guest room, but here are the afters.

Mark and I are amazed at how much space this seem to free up in our house and we are really excited about the change. Cal slept in her new "big" bed last night and she did fine. We were also afraid that it might make her room feel smaller, but we don't think so. We are glad we made this switch.
Have you ever done anything like this? or do your children have to give up their room for guests to sleep in? Please leave your feedback and let me know what you think of the switch.
I think it's a great idea. Back when our little boys were 2 and 3 I actually switched mine and Bran's room with them. We only slept in ours, but they LIVED in theirs. Two beds, toys and every other baby thing you can imagine. It worked great while we needed it.
