Snowmaggedon, Blizzard of Oz, Snowpocalypse, Blizzaster, snOMG, Snostradamus!

Whatever you want to call this weather we're having. We are on day 4 of being out of school and that hasn't happened in 26 years in this part of Texas. I am enjoying my 6 day weekend but wish I would have been more prepared for it. Who would have thought that a snow day could be so  boring at times. I have tried to be a little bit productive, but that's just not fun.
Monday evening we went to the grocery store and got our weekly groceries but we didn't buy anything extra or stock up and prepare for the weather that was coming....we should'a known considering how many people were at Kroger and how many shelves were just empty! Then came home and Calloway wanted to help me cook dinner.

On Tuesday morning we got all ready and bundled and headed outside with Calloway to go play in the icy snow (because we had more ice than snow). We were not out there 1 minute and we were rushing to get back inside. It was so cold that just stepping outside hurt, no matter how many layers you had on.

On Wednesday the cabin fever started setting in pretty badly with me. I realized how much I like to go out of the house and enjoy my daily routine of going to work. So, Wednesday evening we ventured out to the post office, Blockbuster (for a few rentals), and stopped to pick up pizza on our way home. The little trip to Blockbuster should normally take less than 10 minutes but it took us over 20 to get there because of all the ice on the roads. It was strange to see that certain spots there wasn't any ice to be seen and then other places where the road was so thick with ice you could have figure skated on it (which a girl in Frisco, TX did do - there's a video on the web).

Yesterday we decided that would venture out again and called some friends to meet at McDonalds for a lunch play date, just to get out of the house. We stopped at Kroger to pick up some baking items (one must eat sweets when one is stuck at home) and ran by the Seminary for Mark to get some things out of his carroll because the library had flooded and he wouldn't be able to get back in for a while. We were surprised how icey the parking lots at the Seminary were and later found out that most of the schools in my district, their parking lots were the same way. Then last night we baked some chocolate chip cookies and you-know-who wanted to help.

Well, here we are on Day 4 of being out of school. Around midnight it started snowing again and we probably have at least 2-3 inches right now and it is still snowing like crazy. If you didn't know there was ice underneath you would have no idea how bad it is out there. I hoping to make a trip to Wal-Mart today, but we'll see. And we may venture out and try to play in the snow again.....we'll see.

The area has also been having rolling blackouts with the electricity to keep up with the demands. Luckily we haven't lost power once, but we have friends whose electricity has been out several times and another friend who didn't have electricity all day. We are thankful that God has blessed us by keeping our electricity on and keeping us safe.
