Last weekend we had the priviledge of going to Arkansas to celebrate my mom's fiftieth birthday. Shh! Don't tell her she's that old! We drove up on Friday evening after I got out of school. We brought along the portable DVD player and that really helped pass the time more quickly for Calloway.
Libby, my dad, my Aunt Susan, my mom's cousin Brenda, and I had been secretly planning this weekend for about a month. We wanted to throw mom a great birthday party with lots of friends and family. We tried so hard to keep it a secret but it is REALLY hard to keep anything from my mom. Libby and Wyatt were able to come over and meet mom and dad at Olive Garden on Friday night for her "birthday supper" since mom and dad were going to be "busy" on Saturday and wouldn't be able to go out for her birthday then. I had done really well trying not to let it slip after 3 almost slip-ups that week. Then on Friday morning, the day we were supposed to be traveling to AR I was talking to my mom and accidentally let it slip that I was coming up there! I was so mad at myself.....I had tried really hard not to say anything and caught myself several times. But there it went, and now she knew something was up.
We got there around 9:30 on Friday night. It was nice to see everyone but I think we were all pretty tired and went to bed pretty quickly. We normally stay up til 11 or 12 just talking and catching up. On Saturday morning we had a nice relaxed time and gave mom all of her birthday presents at breakfast so that she didn't suspect anything else, but she did.
We took her to lunch at Red Lobster and the whole time she just kept acting like we were keeping something from her. Like I said before, it's really hard to pull something off without mom knowing. Well after lunch we headed over to my Aunt Susan's house where my mom's friends and family were waiting to surprise her. Of course the second we turned that direction she knew what was going on. Here are a few pics from her 50th Birthday Party!
After the party we had to head back home to Texas. It was a very short/quick trip but I am so thankful that we were able to go and be a part of mom's special day!
