LastThursday morning we flew to NYC. This year Mark sang with the Master Chorale from the Seminary and they were invited to sing at the Lincoln Center in NYC on Sunday, May 8th. If you recall Mark sang in NYC at Carnegie Hall a couple of years ago, right after Calloway was born and I was unable to go. Well, when we heard about this opportunity, we decided to make a family vacation out of it. Mark's flight left about 3 hours before mine and Calloway's flight so she and I needed to kill some time at the airport. We did that by hanging out at the playground in another terminal.
View of NYC in the distance from the airplane. We flew into Newark, New Jersey.
NYC as seen from New Jersey.
You could also see the Statue of Liberty in the distance.
Our hotel was just a couple of blocks away from the New York Public Library, which is home to the original Whinnie the Pooh.
Our hotel was next door to Grand Central Station. This was the view of Grand Central Station coming up the street.
Mark came out to meet since we had tons of luggage and gear. My in-laws met Cal and I at the airport. They decided to join us in NYC for some fun also.
After dinner we headed to see the Empire State Building. I had really wanted to get there about sunset so I could have the best of both worlds and see it during the day and at night. Unfortunately, our flight had been delayed and then we ate dinner, and didn't think about there being a long line. This is standing on the street and looking up toward the top, which you can't see.
While waiting to take the first elevator up, I noticed they had these cool mail slots/shoots in the walls. I thought that was pretty cool! Too bad we didn't get to see any letters go down them.
Before you actually go all the way up, they have your group stand in front of a green screen and take this picture.....I stole this from our friend Scott who took a picture of this on the screen.
Proof that we went up to the 86th floor observation deck.
Calloway standing on the observation deck with NYC in the background.
See that really bright spot toward the base of some of those skyscrapers....well, that is where Times Square is located.
The bridge in the background is the Brooklyn Bridge.
When we left the Empire State Building we decided to ride the subway.
(My first time on the NYC subway.)
Calloway's first time on the subway.
We rode the subway to Times Square and decided to get off
so that we could see it at night in all of its glory!
Stay tuned for more posts documenting the 4 days we were in NYC!
