So today we began our first day of 5 for our adoption. Basically we take the same classes that people take to become Foster or Kinship parents. Above is the picture of class manual. We have to attend 27 hours of classes and today we knocked out 6 of those. The morning session was a little slow but had some good information about why children enter "the system" along with many statistics. Then this afternoon we had another 3 hours. The afternoon session was about the importance of visitation and reunification with their birth parent(s).
I guess they didn't want to scare people away after the first 2 sessions so they kept it more on the lighter side of things. Mark and I were both hoping for a little more "meat", but hopefully that is to come.
In other good news our House Assessment has been scheduled for this coming Tuesday morning. That will take about 30 minutes where our SC (social worker) will come tour our house and make sure that we have a safe and livable living environment. We've heard she'll check for a fire extinguisher, cabinet locks, and outlet plug things....looks like we may have to purchase a few things. I'll let you know more after Mark meets with her on Tuesday. This is NOT our actual home study. That comes after a couple of more weeks. Thank you for your continued prayers throughout this process.
