Technically we've already had our family vacation for the year when we went to NYC back in May. You can check out those photos here. But throughout the summer we still wanted to do some fun things with Calloway. On Monday we drove an hour South of us to Dinosaur World. This is the entrance.
The pretty cool thing about Dinosaur World is that it is located in Glen Rose, TX which I mentioned about a month ago in this post. Remember when we were in NYC at the Museum and I showed you those dinosaur tracks? Welll, they were from right there in Glen Rose. We didn't have time to go to Dinosaur Valley State Park there and actually see them on Monday but we'll go back sometime and do that.
Yes, they do have 100's of lifesize dinosaurs including this giant T-Rex right as you pull off the highway.
Here's Cal with a small Allosaurus (I think?) out front.
This is the entrance to the gift shop and where you buy tickets to go into the park. If you ever need a gift for someone who loves dinosaurs....this is the place to get it!
This big guy greets you as you leave the gift shop and enter the park. There is a museum to the far left, the trails begin just to the left, that pavilion behind Mr. Big Dinosaur is the Fossil Dig, and the path to the right is where the trail ends and there's a playground with tons of picnic tables and the restrooms.
They have this T-Rex head that you can climb up in and get your picture taken.
Playing in the playground.
These are the trashcans all along the trails. I thought they were pretty cute!
Stegosaurus'
This guy was kind of amusing to look at.
These were some of the smaller dinosaurs they had. I did take a picture of every dinosaur species they had but I only uploaded some of the neat ones to the blog. You can thank me for that later.....I took a ton of photos.
Apotasaurus
Halfway through the park there is a koi pond where you can feed the fish and of course the dinosaurs come there to get drinks of water and I'm sure some of them are carnivores and eat koi.
These dinosaurs were like elephant bodies mixed with extra long giraffe necks. I think they were my favorite.....plant eaters by the way. You can tell by the types of mouths they have.
This is actually the largest of the dinosaurs.....I don't think I'd like to have met him! And he is kind of ugly too!
We managed to be there during one of the scheduled fossil digs. If you found any fossils you could keep 3. Of course we found tons of teeth, shells, and rocks.
Sometimes it's more fun to dig with your fingers than the special "sifter" thing they provide you with.
Then we went in the museum to cool off! Here are some of those actual prints there in Glen Rose.
These are fabricated after the dinosaurs that are in NYC, that were found in Glen Rose.
We really had a good time! It was just too hot to be outside. We are having record high temps for this time of year. Most days the temperature is somewhere between 99 and 101 so we are really trying to stay indoors.
