Celebrating the 4th

Many of the houses on our street decorate for the 4th of July by putting out buntings and several even line their sidewalks with little flags. This year I purchased buntings to hang from the porch. I loved getting in on the historical culture of our neighborhood and perhaps next year, I might do more. I would never have been able to do something like this at our house in Fort Worth, sadly someone would probably have stolen the buntings or graffitied them.
We began celebrating on July 3rd this year when we to "the city" to see the OKC Philharmonic play at the state fair grounds. It was a free "Pops in the Park" concert, all you had to do is bring your own lawn chairs and snacks.
Here we are getting our seats and waiting for the concert to start.
There was a baricade right in front of us and Calloway really enjoyed climbing on it and around it. It made the perfect spot for us because she had her own personal space to play without there being too many other people too close.
Here we are.....
Our new friends the Hansfords went with us.
After the concert there was a nice 30 minute firework show.
(*I won't bore you  with all of my pictures.)
On Wednesday morning the 4th, there was a parade that came down the street in front of our house. So we took our lawn chairs and went and sat on the sidewalk. I invited a few families from our church over to come watch the parade with us, and they did. Of course I didn't get any pictures of the parade......not that I could have, because it came and went in about 5-10 minutes. It was the shortest and fastest moving parade I've ever been to.

Here's what Calloway picked out to wear for the 4th this year!
I love that her little personality is starting to show in the clothes that she wants to wear!
Isn't she too cute?!?!?
Then last night we went out back and played with some "kid friendly" fireworks. We had gotten some poppers and here we are trying to teach Calloway how to do them.

And then of course we thought some smoke bombs would be fun.
Mark got the job of lighting everything.

And Calloway just stood back and cheered and watched! Ha!

We had a great 4th really! It was different not spending it with extended family but hopefully next year we can enjoy it with either our family or new friends.

Here's to hoping you had a great 4th as well!
